Policies and Procedures
Homework:
Homework will be assigned most days, Monday through Friday. The purpose of homework in my class is two-fold: to teach responsibility and to reinforce concepts already learned. Students receive stickers for each homework assignment they return and when their sticker chart is filled, they've earned a trip to the treasure box! You can support your child in his/her effort to fill up the chart by checking their backpack every day and establishing a homework routine. Homework is not intended to be a source of stress for your family. If you find yourself faced with a homework battle every evening, please let me know and we can work together to solve the problem.
Parent Notices:
Parent notices will be sent home in the homework folder. Please look for important information in your child’s folder every evening.
Communication:
I enjoy our informal conversations after school. If we need to talk about something important and the conversation will most likely take longer than 5 minutes, please send me a note (in the homework folder) and we can schedule a conference. I will check your child’s backpack daily.
Visitation:
Parents are welcome to visit room 3. Please stop off in the office and get a pass prior to entering the classroom. Visits are limited to 20 minutes (LAUSD policy) to minimize distractions and disruption.
Volunteering:
You may volunteer in the classroom as a room parent or a field trip chaperone. Parents who volunteer for periods of more than 20 minutes at a time, must have TB clearance and receive a special volunteer pass from the office.
Illness:
We often have students with fragile health concerns. Please, Please, Please……….if your child is sick, allow them to recuperate at home. If your child becomes sick at school, we will contact you and ask that you pick them up.
Absences/Tardies/Early Release:
If your child is healthy, it is imperative they come to school. Frequent absences greatly complicate our mainstreaming activities and your child falls behind. It is also important children come to school on time and stay for the entire school day. Outside therapies should be scheduled after the school day is finished. When students are late or leave early, they lose instructional time.
If you have further questions, please write me a note or see me after school.
